Vinacar Roll Covering Compounds
 ETL Deflector Roll |
After years of research, development and field testing in various mills world-wide, we introduced the Vinacar I Line of roll coverings. Vinacar I is a proprietary roll covering formulation - a hybrid of plastics and elastomers - that was developed to exemplify the best operating characteristics of each material as they would relate to actual roll cover performance. The maximum operating temperature should not exceed 250° F ambient temperature, although higher temperatures will not melt the material, only make it slightly harder. Hysteresis, the normal build-up of heat caused by the expansion and contraction of the rubber cover under pressure, will not cause any bonding or cover failures. The co-efficient of friction is higher, wet or dry, than polyurethane, nitrile or any other natural rubber. To this end, Vinacar I was developed to have a better operating performance envelope than either polyurethane or conventional elastomers, i.e. outstanding abrasion and tear resistance at high temperatures and compatibility with a wide variety of immersion media. It can be formulated to any durometer from 70 - 100 Shore A-2.

As far as construction techniques are concerned, we are using the latest in cold fed / hot strip extrusion techniques that employ screen packs to make sure that the cover has no impurities and is applied to the roll core surface at almost 200°F, insuring a completely clean and homogeneous cover.

In the past 40 years, STEEL PLANT EQUIPMENT CORPORATION has manufactured and repaired literally thousands of rubber covered " work rolls". In our experience, you cannot buy a better "work roll" cover than Vinacar I. We would put it up against any natural or hybrid composite on the market in any category, including value for price. This material is proprietary to us and, despite claims to the contrary, this material has not been duplicated by any other supplier. These types of claims only serve to strengthen the reputation of this product.
Because of new and/or special manufacturing processes or specific processing problems, we have re-formulated our Vinacar I Roll Covering to include special characteristics for specific process applications. Vinacar I is still the best choice for normal "work rolls".
The additional Vinacar formulations are:
*Vinacar II - Vinacar I modified with improved antioxidants and coupling agents to provide better internal heat resistance as encountered in high speed processing lines.
*Vinacar III - Vinacar II improved by modifying the polymer base to further increase toughness and further address and improve internal heat (Hysteresis) characteristics.
*Vinacar IV - Vinacar III modified with addition of a multi-directional KEVLAR® fiber dispersed into the matrix for better cut and tear resistance plus improved load bearing capability. The co-efficient of friction is also increased by this modification.
*Vinacar V - A special High Temperature Vinacar (up to 375O° F) with excellent wear and cut resistance for use where VITON or EPDM may not provide the necessary physical properties for tough applications.
Please Note: Due to the inherent toughness, abrasion resistance and the difficulty of attaining a smooth surface finish at a specific diameter, all Vinacar Roll Coverings are quoted with a ±1/8" Outer Diameter tolerance. Matched diameters are attainable but include the specified diametrical tolerances.
