SPEC's Exclusive GLE-RM115
Jadestone™ Roll Covering Compound

SPEC's GLE-RM115/Jadestone™ glass epoxy material is a superior composition of a finely woven glass fabric impregnated with epoxy resin. Our curing process incorporates temperatures above 350° F. This combination provides a hard, durable, corrosion-free roll covering, which is lightweight and long wearing. GLE-RM115/Jadestone™ is one-half as light as aluminum, nearly as hard as chilled iron, three times as durable as hard rubber and will polish to a 25 RMS micro finish. GLE-RM115 glass epoxy has a finer finish than "fiberglass" roll coverings and will not break, fray or separate; and it helps increase the stiffness of the roll body, thus reducing deflection.

Steel Plant Equipment Corporation supplied its first glass epoxy roll covering to the Paper Industry in 1965. SPEC formulated GLE-RM115 based on several of our products which were developed, tested and proven in the super-heated, acidic processes associated with the steel making industry. Since that time, GLE-RM115/Jadestone™ has become the superior roll covering compound for paper making processes, wet end or dry. Because of the high co-efficient of friction, this roll covering is outstanding in any drive position including Top Wire Formers.

PRODUCTION ADVANTAGES

Jadestone™ covered rolls are ideal for wet or dry positions. The waterproof characteristics of this covering compound completely eliminate the problem of corrosion encountered with non-covered rolls and the end swell that is eventually encountered with bone hard rubber covered rolls. Jadestone™ is completely impervious to water and is not affected by its pH.

Jadestone™ has the ability to throw off water better than metal or rubber so sheet formation is greatly improved. Control of all paper finishes is greatly enhanced by the precision-machined surfaces of these covered rolls. In addition, Jadestone™ provides additional stiffness to the roll core, thereby reducing roll deflection and improving sheet formation. Since there are no speed limitations to the cover, production capacity can be increased as needed. Many of our customers who have Jadestone™ roll covers throughout their entire machines tell us of unexpected wear-life increases in their forming fabrics, wet felts and dryer felts - as much as a 50 % increase!

LONGER ROLL LIFE

Although hard rubber roll covers cost approximately the same as Jadestone™ covers, there will be an anticipated life-cycle advantage of at least three times that of rubber without the problem of end swell. Compared to non-covered rolls (metal), Jadestone™ covered rolls will completely eliminate corrosion which will increase roll life and make machine clothing cleaning devices perform at a higher level. SPEC craftsman can apply Jadestone™ covers in any thickness down to 1/8" and to any core material including steel, brass, cast iron and aluminum. K Monel or other doctor blades can be used against the cover with much less effect on the ultimate wear-life of either metal or rubber covers.

OPERATIONAL SAVINGS

In addition to those noted above, Jadestone™ covers offer additional production savings. The high-quality, precision machining capability of these covers are proven factors in increasing wear life of both Fourdrinier wire screens and felts and other paper machine clothing. Covers damaged by misuse can easily be repaired without removal from the paper machine and with minimal interruption of machine operation, an advantage not offered by other covering compounds.

QUALITY and SERVICE

Of the more than 15,000 roll covers supplied since 1965, there has never been a reject due to material quality or workmanship. It is with confidence that we deliver our roll covers 100% guaranteed!
