SPEC's Aluminum Oxide Coatings
P905   P905S   T905   T905S

Issued January 3, 1995

Revised April 12, 1995

SPEC's P905 and P905S coatings are produced by the thermal spray deposition of a white alumina ceramic. The 905S coatings utilize a fine and very pure powder, and tend to produce higher coating densities and finer "as sprayed" (no finishing) coatings than the 905 series coatings.

SPEC's T905 and T905S coatings are special coatings that have been developed to maximize high temperature properties. These coatings are less dense than the P905 series coatings and provide less resistance to surface wear. They do, however, provide superior resistance to spalling due to thermal expansion in high temperature (up to 3000° F) applications.

Both of the above coatings are deposited utilizing a High Energy Plasma Flame Spray process and produce very hard wear coatings. These high purity coatings are also widely used for alumina's excellent dielectric properties, as well as a top coat in some high temperature coating systems. They are used to resist wear caused by fibers, threads, packing or lip seals, and hard surfaces such as sheet steel. Dielectric applications include soldering iron tips, electrical coils and electrical isolation of rolls and metal housings. These coatings replace plastic insulators where high temperatures prevent their use.
